Good choice for old jazz

I tried this mouthpiece at a friend's - I immediately decided to buy the same one for myself. Vandoren optimum ligature. The advantages are a fairly bright sound color, the ability to play clearly and beautifully both on the piano and on the forte, altissimo is taken very easily, in combination with the Select jazz unfiled 2.5 reeds - I give it a like. The disadvantages are that the mouthpiece is very bright, in order to control it, you need to practice on the piano, while keeping the sound on the support - the tuning of the instrument depends on this. I really liked the mouthpiece - I recommend it!

Perfect upgrade!

My first high class mouthpiece-upgrade from the old Yamaha 4C.At first I was scared if I can handle it,but few hours later I was delighted with the sound,rich tone and easy go from the lowest to the highest octave.!Verry happy!

A really good mouthpiece

Although I had been quite a beginner when I bought it, I didn’t need much time to get used to it. I love it’s bright (but still warm) and open sound. As for the reed, the Legere American Cut 2.75 is currently a perfect fit for me. In the beginning I tried various reeds and I remember that Vandoren V16 2,5 suited me best.

Ich habe in den letzten Jahren durchweg auf dem Vorgängermodell A5-S gespielt, welches mich bereits von den Spieleigenschaften, von der Qualität und vom Klang her total überzeugt hat.
Das neue Modell hat eine etwas größere Kammer, daher auch die Bezeichnung S+ (Small Chamber Plus).
Dieses wirkt sich auf mehrere Dinge (wie ich finde positiv) aus:
- Es lässt sich bei Altsaxophonen, die einen Ring vor dem Kork am S-Bogen haben, weiter auf den Kork aufschieben. Dieser zusätzliche Spielraum ist je nach Instrument sehr willkommen.
- Die Intonation ist noch ausgeglichener, besonders das mittlere C und Cis, sowie ab dem hohen D bis Fis (zumindest auf meinem Instrument).
- Der Sound ist nach wie vor klar fokussiert, gewinnt aber an Flexibilität und Wärme. Die klangliche Palette wird etwas breiter.
Insgesamt ist das A5-S+ ein tolles Mundstück für traditionellen und modernen Jazz (perfekt für Leadalto in einer Big Band und als Solist), eignet sich darüber hinaus aber auch für andere Stilrichtungen wie Funk, Pop etc.
Für einen klassischen Jazzsound würde ich die 5er Bahnöffnung empfehlen.
Es besitzt die bereits vom Vorgängermodell gewohnten
guten Spieleigenschaften (Ansprache, Artikulation, Dynamik, gleichmäßiger Klang über die Register, usw.).
Ich spiele es mit ZZ Blättern Stärke 3.
Der Unterschied zum Vorgängermodell ist aber auch ein wenig Geschmackssache. Es wird sicherlich auch Spieler geben, die bei dem alten Modell bleiben werden.
