One of the most underrated synths out there
Bought this one about a year and a half ago and since I've used it in every track I've made (over 20 tracks). I think it's one of the best price-value purchases an artist can make at the moment and I truly think its original retail price was also not out of the ballpark, like many felt because of the size format and mini-keys.
Let's start from the mini-keys. They're hands down the best mini keys I've laid my hands on. They feel great and not cheap and mushy. I often, despite owning a quality master keyboard, end up playing other instruments with this keyboard. The pitch stick is also really good, has a great feel. The build quality is really good as well. It sure looks a bit like a toy, as it looks like a miniature FM-synth, but don't let that fool you. This one is made to last.
Then the sound. I personally think 4 operators hit a sweet spot for most. It's simple enough to actually understand what you're doing, but deep enough for creative patch making. Also they've done pretty good job with the interface - it's easy to read and fairly easy to work with. The touch strips work surprisingly well, although I can't like, sliders would've been better. The included effects are also surprisingly good, although some of them could've used 3 parameters instead of the two. But they're definitely something one can and will use, especially as you can have two of them simultaneously. Oh, and it outputs stereo audio.
If there's anything to complain, I'd mention these: the speakers are something I would have removed. No use at all for those. It boggles my mind why Reface DX has only 32 memory slots for patches. Even doubling that would've made a HUGE difference. With an instrument this inspiring and easy to use, you fill up those slots in no time with sounds you want to use in multiple occasions. A dedicated offline editor for Windows and MacOS would've been nice. Luckily there is a third party (free) option: CTRL. And also via that program one is able to store patches on hard drive. But keep in mind, this is not done by Yamaha, that's my point. But other than these, it's a magnificent 4-op FM-synth.

DX on näistä ehdottomasti monipuolisin.
