A new standard for the Strat wiggle stick. And it's available in lefty!
LP Hovercraft. 26.08.2026
Firstly, build quality is excellent, as befits a bridge of this price. Machined parts where possible, all tolerances consistent. Even the springs were impressive.
Installation was a breeze, though non-standard Strat-like bodies and parts might need a tiny bit of work. In my case, an early 90s American Standard pickguard needed a tiny bit of shaving to sit the mounting plate properly. This was also likely because the pickguard did not match the guitar body.
Adjustment and setup were quick and straightforward. Like regular Fender bridges, optimum (Jeff Beck-like) floating bridge setup may or may not require shimming the neck pocket. It entirely depends on the individual guitar and your playing style.
In use, the Vegatrem opens up the world of divebombs and other EVH-type tricks, without the tone-suck and rubbery string tension familiar to Floyd players.
Tuning stability is great, but not quite as good as a Floyd. I am able to get thru a three hour gig with no more retuning than I would have to do on a hardtail. And all this without locking tuners, though a tusq nut does help.
Changing a broken string mid-gig is no longer a nightmare, but my only word of warning: Tuning stability and broken string recovery very much depend on your setup. You may find yourself swapping springs and playing with the claw a lot before you achieve the desired outcome. Happily, the bridge comes with three sets of springs in tensions to suit all string guages.
In conclusion: The Vegatrem Ultratrem sounds great and works perfectly as claimed. It's not cheap, but the build oozes quality. It allows Floyd-style acrobatics on regular Strats, and has the extra added bonus of not having to bring a second guitar to the gig in case of string breakage, (a problem familiar to Floyd users.)

I watched the reviews, I watched more reviews, I thought this can't be true, I bought this trem, installed it on a Fender Stratocaster, now all my guitars with floating trems are gathering dust. It truly is a marvellous piece of engineering.
