Excellent for rimshots.
These hoops are excellent for rimshots. If you use control rings the hoop also holds them in place so they don't fall of, even if you hold the snare drum upside-down. However, be aware that you might find it difficult to use mic clamps on the hoop.

Quality hoop
I use this hoop on a Ludwig Supraphonic 6,5 x 14 snare. The sound is a bit drier using this than with the stock flanged hoop. Rimshots are easy to play and sound good, and it does seem that the tuning holds well, even though I play fairly hard. The S-hoop also holds a dampening ring neatly in place.
