Levys Garment w/Suede Strap 2,5" BK

For most of my life as a guitarist I’ve used nylon straps and have been mostly satisfied with them. Some straps have been better than others, with some simply feeling better, some possess superior aesthetics (Ibanez makes some really nice ones on both these counts btw) while others simply offer a better build quality.

Build quality is something that nylon straps, in my experience, trump over leather straps in lower price ranges. Cheap nylon straps tend to be much better than their “leather” counterparts: the few leather straps I have previously owned felt uncomfortable, inflexible as well as “plasticy” and “glossy”. The strap would feel too frictionless to my taste and feel just cheap and irritating.

However when I chose to give this garment leather straps a go I was expecting for an improvement and boy did I get just what I wanted. Whereas nylon straps tend to offer a higher floor regarding build quality and feel, their ceiling (at least in my experience) is lower compared to leather straps. I have never had a strap more comfortable than this. The feel is premium, the leather feels soft and “flexible”, it grips better to my neck and shoulder while I’m playing and the weight distribution feels really nice. The strap looks really good as well and I’ve had no issues using Schaller strap locks with the strap.

While I’ll still probably use nylon straps on some of my lighter guitars, I’ll definitely be looking to replacing the straps on some of my heavier guitars with garment fabric leather straps. Would recommend, my Sire L7 feels soft much more comfortable. Likewise if you have a guitar with neck dive the extra bit of friction compared to a “smoother” surfaced strap might provide help with that.
