Pretty Good But I Expected More
Jaakko / its.Records 25.04.2026
At the time of writing this review I've played these strings for 10 months. I've always used mostly Elixir Nanowebs before and I bought these strings because I wanted something little less zingy and bright for my already insanely bright Musicman Stingray Special.
Tonally the strings are in a good spot even after 10 months. I personally quite like the sound of old strings (which I could never get with the everlasting Elixirs) and these have settled into a nice not-dead but certainly worn in tone that serves all playing styles and genres. I haven't done AB comparison but I feel that these strings have kept their tone a lot better than other basic roundwounds. Perhaps this is because of the strings being "Super Polished" so they gather less dirt that kills the tone?

feel-wise I was a little disappointed at first because these La Bella Super Polished strings are marketed to have the "smooth feel of flats" even though they clearly feel like a roundwound to the touch. Sure, compared to some cheap basic roundwounds these La Bellas might be a little less coarse, but having played the very smooth Nanoweb Elixirs for so long these strings felt just like any regular strings to me.

What makes these strings different from any other La Bella Super Polished strings is the custom string gauge and tension. For me these "in-between" gauges was something I was really curious about at first but honestly I can't tell a difference compared to my usual 45-105 set.

In conclusion, these strings offer a balanced versatile tone and easy-to-play feel even after almost a year of heavy use and I'm not planning to change them any time soon but because the way these were advertised I did expect to get more than the playing feel of regular strings. I am not regretting my purchase but I will probably not be buying another set. These ones probably still have some years left in them anyway!

Great allround strings
WesBes 09.04.2026
Beeing a huge IMA-fan, I bought these strings for allround use on my MIJ Fender Jaguar. They live up to my expectations as great allraound strings; Sounds not too bright, not too dark - like great sounding dead roundwounds. Feels more like a smooth semi-flat. I don't find them harsh or sticky at all. Great for both fingers, pick and slap.

Awesome

Used a lot of strings. New ones are too bright and stiff. Flats are to dull and sometimes to stiff. This for me is a perfect compromise. Great feel, bright enough. Not too dark for allround playing. Totally love these.

Just another glorified roundwounds
Andris Muc 08.05.2026
Roundwounds + Flatwounds - the best of both worlds? Far from that. These strings are marketed as having "flatwounds' feel" - they don't. They are harsher to the touch than a 3-old set of normal roundwounds (Addario) I had previously on my P-bass.
They sound good and are LaBellas anyway, but feel to the touch exactly like a set of roundwounds. It is a cheap marketing move with Ian Allison's name on it.
