Classic with improvements
I've ended up owning and letting go Boss SD-1 three times. The first was when I gave my old trustworthy unit to a friend. The second one was buying the Waza Craft version in questin. This summer (2020) I sold the Waza Craft unit for the lack of use, and now in autumn I took a great deal for a Uraltone modded basic SD-1. The circle is kinda complete...
SD-1W is an excellent overdrive. It has all the goodness of the original, but the extra "C" mode gives you extra clarity, wider gain range and slightly more responsive tone knob that has a tad usable range even in the extremes. In heart it is still the same crunch teaser for your mildly overdriven amp or a great boost for your already hot tubes. All this in a robust Boss housing and allegedly with better quality inside parts than the basic version. At least soldered more carefully.
SD-1W is an excellent option as a ready-from-the shelf solution to get yourself the goodness that can be professionally modded SD-1. Take it from me, this is one friend that you keep coming back to.
