Antelope Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core

I have had this unit about three weeks now and i'm completely blown away with the sounds i have recorded via this to Pro tools so far. Very clean high quality.
When i first set it up it took me a while to get used to the routing, but then i had an hour long video call with Georgi from Antelope Audio and he talked me through the functionality and helped me set up a session to work from. He was very thorough and extremely helpful, as well as patient!
I can now see how incredibly flexible the routing can be.
All in all a 10/10.

I have now had the Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core for about 3-4 months.
It is used in my home studio with a Smile. The recordings are made with joy, as the results turn out incredibly well, primarily the clarity and sharpness of the sound image when mixing.
Even though it is a USB interface, I do not experience any latency during recording, as the Oryx processes in real time.
I have read some negative reviews from users of older products from Antelope Audio, but I don't quite agree based on my own preferences for using the Oryx. I use Logic Pro 12 with the latest MacOS. Although full compatibility with Tahoe is lacking, I have not experienced any issues. The control panel is easy to overview.
What I do find challenging is the powerful capability of routing the signal paths. I knew when I bought it that this would require a slightly longer learning curve on my part. Those who work with music production on a daily basis should have no problem achieving a smooth workflow in their creative process.

I’ve been using the Antelope Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core for a month now and I’m very satisfied with the purchase. The sound is clean, detailed, and spacious, especially noticeable when recording vocals and mixing. The preamps are high quality, monitoring is latency-free, and the DSP effects pleasantly surprised me with their sound quality.

At first, the interface and routing seemed complicated, but after a couple of days everything became clear. There are a lot of possibilities — it’s convenient to set up separate outputs, headphone mixes, and external hardware.

After a month of use, the device has proven to be stable. An excellent option for both home and professional studios if you need truly high-quality sound and flexibility in your workflow.

Ich habe den Artikel jetzt 14 Tage im Einsatz und die Aufnahmen und die Effekte live auf den Kanälen sind sehr gut. Die Hardware ist stimmig und wirkt hochwertig. Soweit kann ich mich nicht beschweren.

ABER, jetzt kommen wir zur Software.
Ich habe es auf dem MAC und einem Windows PC probiert und habe das Gefühl, dass Antelope vor Release nicht einmal die eigenen Features getestet hat. Zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt bin ich noch in Diskussionen im Support-Portal von Antelope.
Was mich nervt: In der Mixer-Software kann ich die Kanäle nicht vernünftig dauerhaft benennen. Sobald ich die Software beende und neu starte sind die Kanalnamen wieder alle auf "A1"-"A8" durchbenannt. Das scheint auf dem Mac, sowie dem PC einfach nicht integriert zu sein (testet das auch wer, bevor man so ein Interface auf den Markt gibt?)
Der Support hat mich gebeten mehrfach den Antelope Launcher neu zu installieren. Das ändert natürlich nichts. Ich habe den Eindruck, dass nicht mal ein Platzhalter für die Namen in der Config-Datei existiert.
Das ist irgendwo noch verschmerzbar.

Dann habe ich probiert das Bridging Plugin AFX2DAW zu benutzen. Dies Plugin soll in der DAW benutzt werden um Effekte auf einer Spur hinzuzufügen, ohne dass die CPU des Computers dafür zur Berechnung verwendet wird, es sollen dann die CPUS/der FPGA auf dem Interface benutzt werden. Hierbei bekomme ich das Problem, dass sich das Plugin öffnet man aber einen schwarzen Bildschirm mit "No erros" erhält. Man kann aber keine Effekte, wie in der Mixer-Software, auswählen. Das Problem ist auch bekannt wenn man danach sucht und manchen Leuten hat der Lösungsvorschlag aus dem Internet geholfen. Mir jedoch nicht, egal ob MAC oder Windows. Der Support will wieder, dass ich den Launcher neu installiere und meinte dann noch, dass man das AFX2DAW kaufen müsste, es aber nicht mehr kaufbar wäre. Dabei kann ich es im Launcher installieren ohne es zu kaufen. Ich habe den Eindruck das die Leute im Hause Antelope teilweise nicht wissen was in manchen Bundles mitgeliefert wird und ob die Software überhaupt noch verfügbar ist.
Das hinterlässt halt auch seinen Beigeschmack.

Ich könnte über die beiden Punkte (Chanel Umbenennung, AFX2DAW nicht funktional) hinwegsehen, aber ich stolpere dabei immer über den Preis von 1199€. Das vermiest es mir ein wenig und wenn man so in diversen Foren liest dann gewinnt man den Eindruck, dass es mit Software/Treiberupdates evtl. noch schlimmer werden könnte in Zukunft. Das find ich sehr schade, weil die Hardware an sich Klasse ist. Ich weiß aktuell noch nicht, ob ich es zurücksende oder ob ich es behalte, aber wenn ich darüber nachdenke, dass ich mit meinem Scarlett 18i20 11 Jahre kein einziges Problem hatte und es out-of-the-box direkt funktioniert hat dann macht mich das fassungslos, wie man als Hersteller so agieren kann. Noch dazu wo das Internet voll ist mit solchen "Lass die Finger von Antelope Software, HW geil, Software nicht so schön"-Beiträgen. Ich werde diese Bewertung noch in den nächsten 14 Tagen updaten.

Am Ende muss jeder selber wissen wie viel er bereit ist abzutreten. Ich hadere aktuell sehr bei dem Preis und mit dem Softwarestand der verfügbar ist.
