The SHURE PGA31 is a good entry level to other headset mics out there. It certainly does not have the sonic qualities of a SM35 or any DPA mic. However, its price makes it suitable for people without the means to purchase the more expensive gear.
The PGA31 is a tad bit on the darker side with way less brightness than expected for a condenser. However, when speaking without music on the background it has a warm tone for speeches. With music playing I would recommend to EQ out the 250hz and low cut below 120hz to avoid both the possible handling noise and any undesired breaths or blows. The rejection is quite nice on the back/sides thanks to its cardioid capsule and the condenser aspects of it means you don't need to crank the gain up too high. The mic being darker also helps with feedback on higher frequencies, but will still be susceptible to feedback if gain is too high.
For anyone purchasing this ALONE without the BLX kit or compatible SHURE T4AF transmitter, you will require an INLINE PHANTOM ADAPTER like the Thomann 100RC or the SHURE RPM to be able to pass through the specific phantom power voltage to the headset. Any other combination will not work.
Anyway, for its price, a fantastic option as long as you already have the means to power it or connect it.
