Kohtuuhyvä virtalähde

Tämä oli aikoinaan välttämätön ostos lähinnä siksi, että käytän aktiivisesti MXR Flangeria, mikä vaatii 18 volttia nykyään yleisemmän 9 voltin sijasta. DC Brick on komean näköinen, varustettu kirkkailla ledeillä ja mukana tulee kaikki tarvittavat kaapelit. Opin kuitenkin nopsaan, että mötistä on hyvä ottaa virrat pois kun vaihtelee kaapeleita, sillä efektipedaalin ja Brickin väliin tarkoitetun virtakaapelin iskeytyminen vahingossa laitteen metallikuoreen käy helpommin kuin kuvitteleekaan ja jos toinen pää on vielä Brickissä kiinni ja virrat ovat päällä, niin tuloksena on kipinöintiä – älä siis laiskottele, vaan ota suosiolla sähköt pois. Tämä, sekä liitinten heppoinen tuntuma, ovatkin oikeastaan ainoa huono asia, mitä voin sanoa laitteesta, mutta aika vähäiselle jäävät risut.

Keikkakäytöstä en osaa sanoa, sillä Brick on minulla käytössä vain studiohommissa, mutta voisin kuvitella sen ajavan asiansa myös lavalla. Tuskin kukaan tykkää ärsyttävistä virtamokkuloista, jotka rohmuavat tilaa jatkojohtopaikoissa, ja juuri tätä ongelmaa vastaan DC Brick on erinomainen apu.

Hyvä ja perusvarma virtalähde

Minulla on ollut tämä nyt muutaman vuoden keikkalaudassa kiinni. Omassa käytössä 8 9 voltin paikkaa ei oikein meinaa riittää, mutta tehot riittävät onneksi myös virtapaikkojen jakamiseen. Ei aiheuta hurinaa ja pienen kokonsa ansiosta sopii erinomaisesti myös laudan alle. 18 voltin ulostulot ovat myös oiva lisä.

Ainoat miinukset tulevat aika heppoisen oloisista piuhoista. En ole tosin kertaakaan joutunut piuhaa vaihtamaan kolmen vuoden aikana ja adapterit ovat kestäneet hyvin irrottelut ja uudelleenkytkennät. Kaikkiastaan oikein toimiva ja hyvä virtalähde.

Does Job, One Caveat

Great device, powers my pedals, doesn't catch fire etc.

One caveat - I'd hoped it would come with a UK power adaptor. It did not. It came with an EU power adaptor, which is alarmingly wobbly when plugged into an EU->UK power adaptor-adaptor device. Being as the power adaptor needs to be 18V / 2A / center-positive, it is almost completely impossible to fix this problem with a proper UK adaptor. I have contacted both MXR and Thomann on this subject to no avail. If you can find such a device with a UK plug, please let me know, because I can't. The only solution I can think of is to leave the UK and move elsewhere in Europe.

Not that this is a bad solution as such and indeed - especially post-Brexit - it has a great deal going for it in many ways, but even if I do emigrate I'll still want to tour the UK from time to time, in which case the dreaded wobble will be back.

Hence four not five stars.

Good, but overpriced PSU

This brick does its job perfectly. The isolated outputs do a hell of a job, no hum whatsoever. The 18v output is there, but I never really had the opportunity to use it. The quality of the build is really good as well (would expect that from brands like mxr) and the PSU is very small which helps out with space management on the pedal board. The only thing about it is the price. 118 is quite a lot, especially that you can get other PSU's of the same quality for a lower price. Overall a good PSU.
