Great, easy-to-dial-in alternative for the well-known legend
Great, faithful-to-the-original old school rock tone. Articulate & growly. I've been using this as a backup in rehearsals and studio, but could easily replace my #1 bass preamp pedal (yes, the one this is modeled after) due to the sound being so similar. No doubt this would easily handle live situations, too.
These work well:
- Sound. Can't go wrong with this if old-school Ampeg-style rock growl is what you're after.
- Easy to dial in.
- Price, especially if compared to the one it's modeled after.
- Headphone output is an advantage!
- Seems sturdy enough to withstand some abuse as well.
These could use a little tweaking:
- LED effect at the front. A manufacturer thing, it seems, in most of their pedals. Unnecessary, if not slightly disturbing feature, but can be turned off altogether from the switch at the bottom of the pedal. So a no-brainer. Just turn the LED off and all's well.
- Pot knobs could have a little less-plastic feeling. They work well and do their thing just fine though, and replacing them would be an easy and inexpensive fix.
All in all, an absolute keeper. As a main offender on your pedalboard, or a back-up if your main rig fails. If you don't have one already, I'd highly recommend you go and get one!
