Does what it's meant to do
I have been dressing sharp fret ends and fret sprout with this file. I've only used the 1000 grid because it has been enough. Just save the fretboard with a little tape and after the dressing I have polished the fret ends with a dremel. I have used it only for 5 guitars (all frets) and the file is still like new.
